Greensboro Chamber’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Policy

The Greensboro Chamber of Commerce acknowledges that diversity, equity, and inclusion are vital to the thriving community we seek to know and grow here in Greensboro. Inclusivity is one of our core values and we understand that welcoming all voices leads to better outcomes for all of us. We know that a strong, connected business environment creates opportunities. We resolve to honor diversity and inclusion with respect to race, ethnicity, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, nationality, religion, age, physical, mental, and developmental ability, and socioeconomic status, in all the work that we do.

We value our role as a leader within the community and we commit to the following:

  • Facilitate ongoing opportunity to enhance learning about diversity, equity, and inclusion.
    • We will provide annual staff training to create and maintain an inclusive culture.
    • We will infuse diversity, equity, and inclusion content in an annual Chamber event to provide opportunity for our members and broader community to continue learning.
    • We will include diversity and inclusion content in our annual leadership retreat.
  • Ensure diverse and inclusive staff and governance with equitable policies.
    • We will assess our talent recruitment, hiring, and salary process and adjust as necessary to make sure it is fair, equitable, and promotes diversity and inclusion.
    • We will hire diverse staff that are reflective of our broad community and continually ensure that our culture is inclusive of that diversity.
    • We will ensure that our boards are diverse in identity, ability, industry, etc.
  • Work with our members and event attendees to create inclusive spaces at our offices and events.
    • We will seek to make accessible accommodations at our meetings and events and strive to create welcoming and inclusive environments.
  • Build diverse and inclusive partnerships.
    • We will serve as an example of vendor/supplier diversity by partnering with diverse vendors in the execution of our business.
    • We will seek feedback and engagement from diverse partners as we plan and execute our mission.
  • Help create an inclusive economy in our community.
    • We will continue to provide measurable resources and support for minority-owned businesses through our programs.
    • We will routinely promote the value of minority-owned businesses to the health of our economy.
  • Hold ourselves accountable.
    • We will annually assess our progress toward these goals through internal and external evaluations that include:
      • Annual employee & member surveys.
      • Annual diversity, equity, inclusion organizational self-assessment.
    • We will report annual progress to our membership and community.
