Director, Accelerate Greensboro

Exempt Status: Exempt
Reports To: Executive Vice President of Member Engagement

Overview: The Greensboro Chamber of Commerce (Chamber) is the largest business organization in the Triad and serves as the principal economic and community development organization in Greensboro. We accomplish our work through four program areas: Action Greensboro, Economic Development, Launch Greensboro, and Member Engagement. There is support for these programs areas provided by Governmental Affairs, Marketing & Communications, and HR/Finance/Administration.

The Greensboro Chamber of Commerce fully supports and values an inclusive community with meaningful and visible representation of diversity. The Director will guide Accelerate Greensboro to ignite change and spark action to make Greensboro the Nation’s #1 destination for Minority Entrepreneurs to design and enhance their business. This position will have direct responsibility for Accelerate Greensboro, including Scale to Excel and the Connections Cohort.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Identify new, innovative ways to engage Accelerate Greensboro participants and the community in ways that build cultural diversity and economic inclusion.
  • Identify and address systemic barriers to supplier diversity
  • Address gaps and educate the business community on the economic impact of supplier diversity
  • Manages sustainable recruiting and funding pipelines for programs, including grant identification and submission, to ensure goals are met and the programs continue to evolve.
  • Develops strategies and tracking for growth in MBA portfolio and goal setter companies.
  • Serves as Program Manager for Scale to Excel
    • Manages instructor and all aspects on the program
    • Oversees recruitment for the cohort
    • Manages alumni plans, strategic plan reviews, and ongoing alumni engagement
    • Promotes the program in the media, through networking events and community partnerships
  • Serves as liaison with Interise on the Scale to Excel program as well as minority business initiatives.
  • Maximizes the dual-relationships with Launch Greensboro and links programming.
  • Maintains a comprehensive listing of relevant programming occurring throughout vetted organizations to share with minority businesses.
  • Manages Connections Cohort recruiting, programming, tracking, and alumni engagement.
  • Manages all revenue and expenses, operates within the set budget, and ensures goals are achieved.
  • Evaluates all aspects of programs, identifies and executes process improvements and efficiencies.
  • Collaborates with the VP, Other Voices Diversity Engagement on relevant issues.
  • Assists with other Chamber programs and events, as needed.
  • Develops and maintains positive relations with Chamber members, and in the community.

  • Must be able to physically perform the basic life operational functions of talking and hearing.
  • Must have the physical dexterity to handle tasks such as making name tags, handling/placing large signs, using a computer and phone efficiently.
  • Must be able to perform moderate physical work, lifting up to 25 pounds to move supplies needed for program days and events.
  • Must possess the visual acuity to prepare and analyze data.

Minimum:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in business, education or a related field.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in establishing initiatives and processes.
  • Demonstrated business development experience.

Preferred:

  • Experience in program leadership and fundraising.
  • Three to five years experience in working in business development with an emphasis on small-to mid-size businesses.

Campus Greensboro Student Engagement & Events Manager

Overview:
Campus Greensboro is an initiative of Action Greensboro dedicated to preparing college and university students for a professional environment and helping them envision a future living and working in Greensboro, North Carolina. Through our flagship program, the Fellows Program, and other year-round programming and events, our mission is to better prepare our local talent for the workforce, motivate students to explore all that the city has to offer outside of their campus communities, and help students discover career options post-graduation.

This full-time, salaried position requires excellent interpersonal skills, creative communication, project management abilities, a high level of attention to detail, a passion for learning, and an enthusiasm for student engagement and community outreach. This position reports directly to the Director of Talent Development, Action Greensboro.
Action Greensboro, together with the Chamber of Commerce, serves as the city’s primary economic and community development group. Action Greensboro is comprised of six local charitable foundations and local business leaders. Action Greensboro convenes, catalyzes and advocates to develop, retain and attract diverse talent with the aspirational goal to support per capita income growth in order to build an equitable and thriving community for all.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

Event Management
• Plan and execute a wide range of Campus Greensboro community-facing events, ranging from 20 to 200 guests.
• Coordinate guest lists, attendance registration, speakers, vendors, and other logistics for events such as receptions, workshops, and presentations.
• Ensure a smooth connection between sponsorship agreements and deliverables during events.
• Handle event follow-up including program evaluation/debrief, recording attendance, and thank-you notes to appropriate parties.
• Fellows Program events occur weekly in the summer after 5PM; other events/programs will occur throughout the academic year.
• Other duties as assigned.

Student/University Engagement
• Coordinate activities/efforts of the Campus Greensboro programs including high-touch connections between college students, career service offices, and university faculty/staff.
• Lead the ongoing student engagement strategy. Serve as the primary liaison on all seven local college/university campuses, recruiting students to engage with Campus Greensboro and apply to our programs.
• Prepare for and attend in-person and virtual recruiting events on college campuses including career fairs, employer networking events, professional development presentations, etc.
• Serve as the direct point of contact for students throughout their application, onboarding, and professional development experiences.
• Maintain databases and track progress of program alumni who have engaged in Campus Greensboro programs and are now employed in the Greensboro area and beyond.
• Assist in the vetting of applications, scheduling of interviews, and coordinating the application cycle for internship programs.

Qualifications:
• Education: Bachelor’s degree
• Excel in a fast-paced environment, able to move quickly on decisions and meet tight deadlines
• Proven competence in project management and event planning
• Strong communication skills with the ability to adapt to various university/college cultures
• Persuasive writer able to tailor messaging to different target audiences
• Strong organizational skills and detail-driven planner (small & big picture)
• Proficient in social media tools including Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn
• Good networker and relationship manager with strong interpersonal skills
• Comfortable working in ambiguity and trying new things
• Ability to balance work on an individual basis and as a part of a team
• Good team player, with a can-do attitude and willingness to pitch in as needed to help others
• Preferred: Experience as a student leader and/or community organizing

Other Requirements:
• Must have a valid driver’s license, insurance and access to a vehicle for off-site meetings and events
• Must be able to staff several evening meetings/events per month
• Work location: Action Greensboro, 122 N. Elm St., Greensboro, NC 27401. Parking pass provided.

Compensation:
This position is full-time salaried. Full benefits package including mileage reimbursement and partial cell phone stipend.
