“College Foundation of North Carolina (CFNC) is a state-wide initiative that provides free materials, a website, a toll-free telephone number and local representatives with the purpose of helping North Carolinians plan, apply, and pay for college. There are several organizations that make up the CFNC partnership. One of those partners is College Foundation, Inc. (CFI). College Foundation, Inc. (CFI) was created by Governor Luther Hodges in 1955 to help North Carolina students and families finance higher education. CFI was the central originator and servicer for North Carolina’s Federal Family Education Loan program from the enactment of the Higher Education Act of 1965 through July, 2010. CFI administers state grant programs and North Carolina’s National College Savings Plan (NC529). CFI also administers the state-wide Residency Determination System and provides services financial services to colleges and universities. CFI’s service to the state of North Carolina can be summed up in its mission statement: Our work today makes a better tomorrow by empowering people to achieve their academic goals. We provide financial assistance for higher education to benefit society and strengthen the economy of the State of North Carolina.”
