Kit Rodenbough (Design Archives) never stays still for long. A maker herself—having made apparel and homegoods for more than 25 years—she also owns and operates Design Archives Emporium in both downtown Winston-Salem and Greensboro.
Rodenbough opened the first Design Archives in Greensboro 17 years ago. It was a vintage clothing and homegoods store where Rodenbough sold her own creations and those she consigned from more than 600 estates. Then, she discovered the website Etsy (an online artist marketplace), and her business plans started to change.
In 2011, Rodenbough found a new location for the Greensboro store and had small booths built into the space. “The landlord suggested I rent [the booths] to individuals, and I had plenty of artist-friends who wanted to set up and sell stuff in the store,” she says. “Just like Etsy!”
