Nicole Steen of Nico Creative Co, wears many hats but there is one unifying characteristic— she puts her whole heart into everything she does (yes, even spending 15 minutes picking out the perfectly ripe avocado). Instead of playing WWF wrestling and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles with her older brother and younger sister in elementary school, she sat in the corner writing fictional short stories in cursive with accompanying illustrations. By age 7, she was designing calendars with different illustrations and seasonal-appropriate decorative fonts for every month. But as she was growing up, academics always came first.

She continued to dabble in art through school (drawing class here, sculpture class there), but it was always ON THE SIDE.  After graduating from Syracuse University with a degree in psychology, she moved back home to Boston to figure out her next step. She wanted to be an organizational psychologist so applied to a graduate school program in California (where she had wanted to live since I was 11).  She spent two years at Claremont Graduate University rigorously studying and earning her Masters degree in business psychology.

Equipped with the knowledge and experience to make it in the corporate world, as a life-long designer who just wanted to create, she quickly realized that path wasn’t for her. In 2012, Nicole started her first online business, Resume By Nico, writing and designing graphic resumes for clients around the country. Fueled by enthusiasm for helping others realize their potential, she started Nico Creative Co, an affordable web and graphic design company for small businesses and entrepreneurs. She is skilled in custom web design, web re-design, logo design and branding, business card design, eBook design, social media graphics, infographics, email campaigns, brochures, and more.

Nicole is dedicated to helping local entrepreneurs realize their dreams, start their own businesses, and deliver high-quality visual products to help attract their ideal clients.

“I was very pleased to have the opportunity work with Launch Greensboro.  While I had pitched and tried to sell my business with many people over the previous 3 months, I had never spoken in front of a large group of people about my idea, nor had I developed a presentation about it.

Preparation Phase

Jennifer was amazing in helping me create a compelling pitch and presentation. When I came to the first meeting, my presentation was very ‘dry’. It focused on statistics and made assumptions about the knowledge of my audience. Jennifer spent over an hour talking to me about my business, my experience, and my goals.  In the end, she not only drew out my relevant experience, but also a very compelling story about the necessity of my business. I was able to incorporate her thoughts into my presentation and created something that people wanted to listen to.

Presentation Day

The day of the presentation, I was very nervous, but it went smoothly and I enjoyed telling my story.  The audience questions were very helpful, as I feel that it allowed me to really shine and show my knowledge about HR and my business.

Post-Event Feedback

Afterwards, I enjoyed receiving all of the audience comments compiled in one document; it was great to read all of the feedback, most of which was useful.

General
