Get to Know Ricky Proehl P.O.W.E.R. of Play Foundation
The mission at the Ricky Proehl P.O.W.E.R. of Play Foundation is to provide financial assistance and programming to at-risk youth in the Piedmont Triad area to participate in athletic, academic and character-building programs. Our scholarship program provides assistance for those who cannot afford after school, summer camp, and sports teams. We also have mentors available for children, a “Fit Miss” program that teaches young girls positive self-image and habits, and we are adding a program for parents to learn financial practices such as budgeting. Another large program we have is “Santa’s Helpers,” which provides assistance for families who need help at Christmas. Currently, we are fundraising to build Greensboro’s first inclusive playground for children with physical and mental disabilities. We are very excited to bring this much-needed amenity to our city. The “P.O.W.E.R.” in our name stands for Play, Opportunity, Work, Excellence, and Respect. We believe that with those core values all children have the chance to succeed. Our hope is to provide a platform and a place for all children to be able to reach their full potential.
Ricky Proehl and his wife Kelly moved to Greensboro in 1995 while Ricky was still playing in the NFL. They fell in love with the city and decided that this is where they wanted to raise their family. Ricky saw the need for a safe, family-friendly sports facility in the area and built Proehlific Park to give back to his community. From there, he created this Foundation to create an equal opportunity for all children to play and grow together.
